Hi Jeremiah, no, you cannot uninstall Chromium. It is used by MODICIA O.S. for WebApps, which are launched in an isolated security sandbox. If you want to use a different browser, you are free to install whichever you prefer—Firefox, Vivaldi, Google Chrome, or any other browser that provides a .deb release package. However, if you uninstall Chromium, you will lose many core functionalities of the operating system, and you won't be able to safely replace them internally, as they will no longer run within a secure sandboxed environment. We recommend keeping Chromium installed and simply using your preferred browser for regular browsing. Team MODICIA.

"Is it possible to uninstall Chromium and use Firefox instead? The contextual text description says that Chromium cannot be uninstalled. Thank you, Jeremiah

Kernel 6.12.48 remains the superior choice for MODICIA O.S.: stable, performant, and fully compatible with real-world hardware and workflows. Kernel 6.16.3~bpo, despite its newer label, introduces regressions that make it unsuitable for serious use. The heart of MODICIA O.S. Kernel 6.12.48 is a well tested, stable, and optimized version for desktop and professional environments. It supports a wide range of hardware, including legacy devices and professional peripherals, without requiring patches or workarounds. Wine EQ works flawlessly on 6.12, ensuring compatibility with advanced Windows software, including audio/video tools and professional-grade games. On 6.16, Wine EQ fails to launch in many setups. Kernel 6.16.3~bpo: regressions and known issues Despite the official changelog claiming improvements, the reality for users is quite different: Reduced hardware compatibility: many legacy drivers have been removed or deprecated. Broadcom Wi-Fi cards, older HP printers, and some AMD GPUs are no longer properly recognized. Networking issues: users report problems with NetworkManager, random disconnections, and instability with VPNs and mobile networks. Wine EQ is unsupported: kernel 6.16 breaks compatibility with key modules required by Wine EQ, making it unusable for advanced Windows software. Known bugs: Instability with EXT4 filesystems in certain configurations. Power management issues on laptops, with abnormal battery drain. Incompatibility with some DKMS modules, including VirtualBox Guest Additions. Works only in VirtualBox? Yes, kernel 6.16 seems to run decently only in virtualized environments like VirtualBox, where hardware is simulated and real-world issues don’t surface. But MODICIA O.S. isn’t designed to be the “eighth operating system” in a Windows VirtualBox setup used by a YouTuber reviewing icon themes. MODICIA O.S. : built for real work, is designed for people who actually work with their computers—graphic designers, musicians, technicians, advanced users. It needs a stable, compatible, high-performance system. Kernel 6.12.48 delivers exactly that. Kernel 6.16, on the other hand, is immature, unstable, and unfit for professional use. In short: Modicia sticks with 6.12 because it’s the only kernel that guarantees performance, compatibility, and reliability. 6.16 is a downgrade disguised as an upgrade. Team MODICIA.

Hi everyone, I was wondering—why are we still using kernel 6.12.48 instead of switching to 6.16.3~bpo? Wouldn't we get better performance with the newer version, at least in theory?

Your system management tools are awesome one click and everything’s done. But I really wanted to give a shoutout to AppImage Menu Integrator. It’s clean, fast, and insanely efficient. I’ve tried other tools before and honestly, they’re laughable. One was even distributed as a Flatpak (seriously?), and another just kept running in the background asking me over and over if I wanted to integrate the app. Was it really that hard to build something like yours? You nailed it—this app takes AppImage to a whole new level, way beyond Flatpak and Snap, all in one click. Hats off to you. I’m so glad I found you guys, and I’m genuinely happy to be using your amazing operating system. Cheers, Nick

Yes, you can use AMD GPU Checker to easily check and fix everything. This graphical utility automatically detects your AMD graphics card, shows you which drivers are active, and alerts you if any updates or important firmware are missing. If you like, you can also install the recommended packages directly with just a few clicks. No technical skills required: Launch the program, instantly see your GPU model, if something needs updating, it offers to install it for you. It’s designed to make life easier for users who just want to know if “everything’s fine” or if an update is needed. - Anton

I have a computer with an AMD graphics card, but I’m not sure if the drivers are up to date. Can I use AMD GPU Checker to check and fix everything automatically?

You can run Windows VST plugins in Ardour, and since MODICIA O.S. Caravaggio already includes Wine, Winetricks, and Ardour. Here's how to complete the setup. Check the audio tab in Wine to confirm that your system’s audio is properly detected. Install your Windows VST plugins using the Wine environment. Enable Windows VST support in Ardour: Launch Ardour. Go to Edit, Preferences , Plugins. Enable “Scan for Windows VST plugins”. Add ~/.vst to the plugin scan paths. Click “Scan Now”. Enjoy your workflow!

Hey y’all, hope everyone’s chillin’ today Quick question for the crew is there any way to run Windows plugins in Ardour? I’m tryna ditch my Windows partition and go full MODICIA it’s just too slick and stacked with everything I need If anyone’s got the steps or knows how to make it work, I’d seriously appreciate it

Thank you, we're glad you find it useful. Of course, you can install any GTK-compatible themes and icon sets. However, please note that the Queen Margherita icon pack is one of the most complete ever created. Any other icon set you install may require you to manually search for missing icons. If that doesn't bother you, there's no other downside to using an alternative icon set. Best regards.
đź•’ 2025-10-21 17:07:43
Hey! I've been using MODICIA OS and I'm seriously loving it everything runs super smooth and it's ready to go right out of the box. Just wondering: is it possible to install other icon sets besides the default ones? I like tweaking the look of my desktop a bit. Thanks and props to the team, this distro is insanely well put together!

You're very welcom we truly appreciate it. Don't worry: the more envy and criticism there is, the more it means you're doing your job well, and that bothers some people. We hope MODICIA O.S. proves useful and helps you with your projects. – Team MODICIA

I just wanted to thank you for the amazing work you're doing—you've created something truly useful and beautiful for the open source community. I felt like I had to say it, especially because there's so much negativity online these days. Congratulations!

TRIM is a command that tells your SSD: “These blocks of data are no longer in use — you can safely erase them.” SSDs don’t overwrite data like hard drives — they need to erase blocks before reusing them. Without TRIM, deleted files linger invisibly, slowing down future writes. TRIM keeps your SSD fast, clean, and healthy over time. In MODICIA O.S., the TRIM tool: Reads your SSD’s current TRIM status. Lets you enable or disable periodic TRIM. It doesn’t touch your files or partitions — it simply tells the SSD which blocks are safe to clean up. It’s like tidying up the workspace, not deleting anything new. Your filesystem supports TRIM (ext4, btrfs, etc.). You’re not running it during critical disk operations (e.g. cloning, restoring). MODICIA’s tool is designed to be non-destructive and user-friendly, so you won’t “mess up” anything by using it. "If you use TRIM on an HDD, some disks or filesystems may generate I/O errors. - Team MODICIA O.S.
đź•’ 2025-10-17 13:28:40
Sorry if I sound silly, but I don’t really get what the TRIM tool in MODICIA does. I’m not sure how it works and I don’t want to mess up my SSD.

Before asking, it would be easier to just read the instructions—they're even written in German on the Install O.S. page. Anyway, to sum it up: when you set your system to a language other than English and reboot, you're actually still using the English 'Desktop' folder that was created before the translation. So programs will keep saving files there. This happens in all Linux distributions, but no one ever bothers to warn you. You need to reboot a second time to make sure the translation is complete—including the desktop folder! To fix it now, it's simple: just delete the English 'Desktop' folder, and whenever a program wants to save something to the desktop, point it to the 'Schreibtisch' folder instead. After that, it’ll remember automatically. Hope that helps! But seriously, read the instructions they’re super clear, and if you’re new to Linux, that’s the least you should do. Jürgen

Hello everyone, sorry for my English but I'm German and I'm using a translator. I wanted to ask why, when I save a file with GIMP, I find it in the 'deskto' folder and not in the 'Schreibtisch' folder?

Good evening, We are responding to your question about the commercial ISO in this public form, which is open to everyone, as it serves as a space for free information and assistance. The ISO file can be downloaded only once, and the link remains active for 24 hours. The license is personal. Once the ISO has been saved and decrypted using your license key, please store it in a secure location in case you need to reinstall it or install it on multiple PCs. There is no need to download future commercial versions of the ISO, as your current version will automatically update to the latest releases without any action required on your part. This automatic update process will continue until the end of official support from MODICIA Company (August 9, 2028). After that date, the system will continue to receive LTS updates from Debian until June 30, 2030. Please note that in the commercial version, support is provided directly by MODICIA Company—not by the community. When you purchase the license, you are entitled to three support emails included. Kind regards.

Import Your Footage. Drag your video into the timeline. Add a Blur Effect. Go to the Effects tab. Search for "Blur" (e.g., Box Blur, Gaussian Blur, or Low Pass). Drag the blur effect onto your clip. Create a Mask. Search for "Mask" in the Effects tab. Add "Mask: Simple Shape" to your clip. Choose a shape (usually a rectangle) and position it over the license plate. Track the Movement (if needed) Add the "Motion Tracker" effect. Set the tracking area over the license plate. Click Analyze to let Kdenlive track the movement. Link the mask to the tracker so it follows the plate. Combine Mask and Blur Use "Mask Apply" to apply the blur only within the masked area. Preview and Adjust Scrub through the timeline to ensure the blur follows the plate. MARIANI--PHOTO

You can find all the technical documentation and guides here: (https://docs.syncthing.net/v2.0.0/), and a very well-made, clear, and professional multilingual video (definitely not the work of some click-hungry amateur) here: (https://youtu.be/se4V-CgO7ZM). Cheers!

Hello, I'm a new user. I previously used Ubuntu Studio and, more recently, AV Linux. I just wanted to let you know that your system is fantastic—I’ve abandoned everything else and now use only MODICIA. The difference between a programmer who simply installs software as-is and the configurations and optimizations crafted by designers in MODICIA is striking—truly immense. Keep up the great work!

Hi there, and thanks for your interest in MODICIA OS! Yes—MODICIA OS supports many popular Windows applications out of the box. For more complex software like Adobe Photoshop, additional components (such as Wine and performance optimizations) may be required to ensure smooth operation and full compatibility. A step-by-step guide is available on our [Tutorials Page], making setup straightforward. Installation is extremely simple. MODICIA OS uses the Calamares installer, which handles everything automatically. Just follow the on-screen instructions—no advanced technical skills required.MODICIA OS is built for users who want to focus on productivity, not system administration. It comes preconfigured with essential drivers, scripts, and tools, so you can start working immediately. Hardware support—including printers, Wi-Fi adapters, and NVIDIA graphics—is included by default. System updates are handled automatically, so you’ll always stay current without manual intervention. For visual walkthroughs and additional help, check out our official video tutorials on the [MODICIA OS Channel]. They cover everything from installation to advanced usage. Team MODICIA OS
đź•’ 2025-10-02 15:26:42
Hey, I’m curious about MODICIA OS. Is it compatible with my favorite Windows apps like Photoshop or Microsoft Office? Also, I’ve got an old laptop lying around—how easy is it to install MODICIA on that? Do I need to be tech-savvy? What about drivers—does it support things like printers, Wi-Fi, and NVIDIA graphics out of the box? And once it’s installed, does it update automatically or do I have to manage updates myself?
đź•’ 2025-10-02 14:42:05
Installing NVIDIA drivers on Linux can pose several risks: Kernel incompatibility: Open-source drivers like Nouveau may contain critical bugs (e.g., use-after-free) that can corrupt kernel memory and compromise the file system. Unstable updates: Proprietary drivers may break after kernel or system updates, leading to boot failures or graphical issues. Firmware and signature requirements: Newer GPUs often require signed firmware, and Linux support may be incomplete or problematic. Complex configuration: Manual installation or use of unofficial PPAs can trigger dependency errors, version conflicts, and desktop environment instability. Summary: Proceed with caution and ensure a full backup of critical data before installing. Team MODICIA O.S.
đź•’ 2025-10-02 07:25:39
Hey, I’m reaching out to anyone who can help—NVIDIA driver installation shows a warning. Is it really that risky, or can I just give it a shot and roll back if something goes wrong?
